National Apprenticeship Week: Georgia McCool, Business Administrator

Apprenticeships offer a unique blend of hands-on experience and structured learning that supports individuals to expand their knowledge and capabilities, while gaining practical skills.

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we spent some time with two of our current apprentices, Georgia and Charlotte, to discuss what their typical day looks like, why they embarked on an apprenticeship, and what Attivo is helping them achieve.

What made you take up this apprenticeship?

I wanted a new challenge and to push myself out of my comfort zone. I researched the company and thought it offered lots of different career opportunities that I was interested in. I also wanted an apprenticeship so I could earn a living while I learned.

What’s your background, and what were you doing before this?

Before I worked for Attivo I went to university to study primary education and worked part time as a lifeguard. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy university, so I left and joined Attivo.

What advice would you give to someone interested in doing an apprenticeship?

To go for it! It’s been the best decision I have made. It’s good to put yourself out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do something new; it’s exactly what I did and I’m so glad I did.

What have you had the opportunity to do, and what have you learnt that you wouldn’t have otherwise?

A lot of skills I have now are thanks to Attivo giving me the opportunity to assist with different areas of the business, such as speaking to clients, taking on projects which I would previously have been too scared to participate in, and I get to work in multiple teams which helps my understanding of the role.

Tell us about your role, what does a typical day look like?

I’ll arrive in the morning and look at what tasks I have due for the day. These can vary between answering calls to clients, booking meetings, creating existing policy schedules and completing offboarding tasks. I also support the Post Team when they’re busy, such as printing letters out, binding reports and scanning incoming post onto the system.

I’ll have a chat with my colleagues about our work and what we are doing (most of the time asking for their help or advice on something!). Then I spend the rest of the day completing my tasks.

What three words would describe the day-to-day life of an apprentice?

Learning, enjoyable, beneficial.

Do you have a goal or aim once you’ve completed it?

To continue progressing within the company and continue building my knowledge in the role.
