Worcestershire County Cricket Club: Remembering Josh Baker

Josh Baker was just 20 years old when he passed away unexpectedly in May 2024, a few weeks before his 21st birthday, due to an undiagnosed heart condition. Attivo is committed to supporting the charity his parents have set up in Josh’s memory, JB33.

Earlier this year, Attivo became a Principal Partner of Worcestershire County Cricket Club (WCCC), and over the past few months, we’ve come to know the club’s ‘family’ in greater depth. We have heard many stories of local heroes and the personalities that make the club so very special. One such story has touched us all deeply. Talented young player Josh Baker passed away unexpectedly in May 2024, a few weeks short of his 21st birthday, due to an undiagnosed heart condition.

A promising teammate

In 2023, Josh signed a three-year deal with WCC. He was a promising player who’d already made his mark in the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and his death was met with an outpouring of sadness from the team, his former teammates at Astwood Bank Cricket Club in Redditch, ex-England captains and the England Cricket Board. In his short life, this young man made a big impact.

JB33: a charity that will make a difference

Josh was a much-loved member of the squad, and we’ve heard so much about his warmth – and his passion for the game, which meant so much to him. In his memory, his parents, Lisa and Paul Baker, have set up the JB33 Foundation – Josh’s cricket jersey number, which has since been retired by the club, in his honour. The aim, they say, is to bring a love of cricket to as many young people as possible and to support the community he had so much pleasure in being a part of. They said: “Josh was just at the start of his cricketing career – something that has always been part of his and our lives. Josh loved life and was always finding ways to fulfil his dreams. We wanted to do something that leaves a legacy, hence the JB33 Foundation. This will be our focus – working with cricket clubs offering opportunities to all.”
